KaritasM with Dr. Jane Goodall in Iceland - June 2016

I had the honor and pleasure to get to know this remarkable woman in Iceland, where last June she inspired thousands of people, including me, with her charisma, energy and strong belief that we can all make a difference . . . as long as we take an active interest in all living things!

Dr. Jane Goodall in Iceland

In July 1960 at the age of 26, Jane Goodall traveled from England to what is now Tanzania and bravely entered the little-known world of wild chimpanzees. She was equipped with nothing more than a notebook and a pair of binoculars. With her unyielding patience and characteristic optimism, she won the trust of these initially shy creatures opening a window into their sometimes strange and often familiar-seeming lives.

Today, Dr. Jane Goodall is considered the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees and one of the most important women scientists of the 20th century. She continues her relentless work around the globe; inspiring action on behalf of endangered species, particularly chimpanzees and encourages people to do their part to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment we all share!

Dr. Jane Goodall working with Youth planting a tree - Roots & Shoots Program

Another truly inspiring program is the Jane Goodall Institute’s (JGI) Roots & Shoots global youth-led community action program.

Here, young people map their communities to identify local needs, prioritize their findings and implement a service campaign of their choice to make a difference for the issues they are most passionate about.

The program builds on the legacy and vision of Dr. Jane Goodall to place the power and resources for creating practical solutions to big challenges in the hands of the young people . . . . something, I believe, we really need here in Greece!

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jane Goodall to Athens and I look forward to seeing some of you (living or visiting Athens, Greece) at the lecture!
