Located in a quiet neighborhood of Nea Kifissia, the Paramalo ouzeri and fish restaurant is a place where all thoughts of the land end and the taste of the sea begins! It’s one of my all-time favorite restaurants where fresh fish and shellfish are the stars!
The Paramalo ouzeri and restaurant was launched a few years back by food connoisseurs Thanassis Sideri and Yiannis Ntofi. Both are always there to welcome you and make sure you have a lovely meal; inside the main restaurant during winter and outside, under huge umbrellas and pine trees, during warm summer days.
When it comes to fish restaurants, I think the most important person is the person buying all the fish and other raw materials. Some even say . . . "do it well and your chefs just have to know how not to mess it up"!!! At Paramalo, Thanassis makes sure the raw material is truly unique . . . and so far . . . . the chefs have never let me down! Here, the customer base; many real aficionados, expect no pretension, just really high quality and well prepared food . . . with a bit of individuality!
When ordering, always listen to Thanassis’ suggestions! He will usually sit down at your table to tell you about the day’s specials and if you like, he or Yiannis, will accompany you to the tavern’s refrigerator and help you choose the fish and/or shellfish . . . to your heart’s delight!
Apart from a big variety of fresh fish the menu always offers lots of salads and other small plates for mixing and matching.
For starters, I love their warm tirokafteri (spicy cheese dip), sagnaki (fried cheese seen in photo on the left) or light and fluffy taramosalata (fish roe disp).
The boiled salads are always a good choice ( see photo of steamed horta above - with octopus) and when in season, make sure to try their succulent ocean fresh oysters, scallops, petrosolines (razor clams) or
irresistible plump, pale mussels served
in a delicious broth of creamy lemonness!
If none of the above appeal to you, then I can highly recommend the grilled octopus or shrimp which are really tops and if you like grilled sardines they are another must . . . deboned and amazingly tasty!
The restaurant doesn’t have a dessert menu but they will always offer you some sort of sweet, ice-cream or fresh fruit to end the meal . . . on the house!
As for beverages, you can choose from a large selection of Ouzo and Tsipouro and the wine selection includes a pretty decent house wine plus bottled wine from a few well known Greek vineyards.
I sure hope you’ll like this restaurant’s fresh seafood bounty . . . . as much as I do. Cheers!
