In the last couple of years the gyros and souvlaki scene in Athens has truly exploded . . . with shops serving these mouth-watering Greek specialties popping up every which way you look!
Personally, I’ve never been a big fan of this type of food but according to my Greek husband, there is no better cure for a hunger fix than some piping hot pita wrapped gyros served Me Ola (with everything) which means your meat (gyros or souvlaki) will be served with tomato, onion, tzatziki (or other sauce) and most probably fried potatoes too!
In Kolonaki, not too far from where I live, we’ve noticed seemingly endless changes to the hip local foodie scene in the past few months. A relative newcomer, and a new favorite, is a cozy little eatery called Ola Sti Ladokolla (Everything served in Waxed Paper).
Here they serve a range of Greek classics to satisfy any grumbling tummy . . . from gyros to souvlaki to salads as well as many other appetizers including grilled veggies or Mastelo cheese from the island of Chios . . . at affordable prices!
Often brimming with happy customers the place’s atmosphere has a truly relaxed casual vibe. It’s great for those who want to grab a quick feed on the go or dine with friends or hubby (like me) that love to feast on generous servings of top quality, thinly sliced pork or chicken gyros, served with pita bread (plain or whole-wheat) and house made yummy fries. . . and much more!
Enjoy!
