Last September, I was truly delighted to welcome a group of some of my best Icelandic friends to Greece, who joined me in discovering some of Andros Island's hidden gems that delivered a truly unforgettable journey.
As I already knew from my previous visits to Andros Island, this hidden gem in the Aegean Sea that is often overshadowed by better-known neighbors such as Mykonos and Santorini, offers a unique blend of adventure with its breathtaking cliffs, lush hillsides, pristine shores, crystal-clear sparkling waters, and mouthwatering cuisine.
When organizing the one-week Hiking & Cooking program for our group, I and my friend Maria Kopsacheli, along with her sister Anna, who are the owners of the beautiful and cozy boutique holiday house Astra Pyrgos Sareli where we were staying on the southeast side of Andros Island, focused on creating an adventure filled with unique experiences.
During these adventures, we had the opportunity to explore stunning landscapes along well-marked hiking trails, passing by natural springs and rugged paths.
Given that Andros boasts some of the most awe-inspiring and less visited beaches in the Cyclades, we made sure to include a visit to one of these unspoiled beaches, as well as stops at the Panachrantos Monastery and Chora, the capital of Andros Island. Here, we wandered through its elegant yet charming streets, admired beautiful mansions, explored museums and churches, and were surrounded by vibrant pink bougainvillea.
As for the gastronomic aspect of our journey, we indulged in hearty meals at local tavernas, visited a local cheese factory and organized cooking demonstrations featuring an array of delicious foods that captured the essence of the island's fresh and flavorful ingredients ... all while nourishing both our bodies and souls!
